Projects

A project keeps everything you build in the editor: objects, materials, textures and render definitions. It is saved to your account and can be opened from any browser where you sign in.

Where they live

In the dashboard, the Projects section lists the projects of the open space. In the Personal space it has two tabs:

  • My projects: The projects you created that are not in a workspace.
  • Shared: Other people's projects where you were invited as a collaborator.

The search looks at the name and the description. The list can be sorted by last modification, alphabetically or by creation date.

Each project has a menu, from the ellipsis button or a right click, with the actions in the sections below. The menu only shows what your role allows.

Creating and opening

The New Project button creates an empty project and opens the editor right away. The name can be changed later. With a workspace open on the projects page, the project is created inside it.

Inside the editor, the File menu also creates a new project and has the Open project... command, which lists the account's projects without going back to the dashboard.

The editor also opens without an account. In that case the project lives only in the browser, and saving writes a .tnp file to your computer. Once you sign in, saving creates the project in your account.

Saving

The project saves itself. Every change is written in the background as soon as you stop working on it. The Save command in the File menu forces the write immediately, for those who prefer to confirm.

If you try to leave with something not yet written, the editor asks for confirmation first.

The thumbnail shown in the dashboard is captured from the viewport automatically while you work.

Settings

The project settings live in the editor and have these tabs:

  • General: Name, description and topology preference.
  • Activity: The record of what was done in the project and by whom.
  • Collaborators: Who has access and with which role. See Sharing.
  • Advanced: Deleting the project, for the owner only.

Renaming can also be done straight from the dashboard, through the project menu or with F2.

Duplicating

Duplicating creates a complete copy, with objects, resources, render definitions and thumbnail. The copy is yours and starts with no collaborators and no public link. It stays in the same workspace as the original when you can create projects there, and goes to the Personal space when you can't.

Deleting and restoring

Deleting does not erase right away: the project goes to the trash, reached from the View trash link on the projects page. It stays there for 30 days, with a count of the days left, and can come back with Restore.

After 30 days, or when deleted from the trash, the removal is permanent and also takes the community posts made from the project.

Only the owner deletes, restores or erases for good. While the project is in the trash, it disappears from every collaborator's list.

Importing and exporting

The File menu has Import, to bring in models from other programs, and Export, which produces one file with everything or one file per object.
