Sharing

A project can be shared in three ways: inviting people to edit or view it with you, creating a view only public link, or placing the project in a workspace, where every member can reach it.

The starting point is the Share command, in the project menu on the dashboard or in the editor's File menu.

Roles

Each person with access has a role, and it decides what they can do:

Publish to the communityYesYesYes
View the project activityYesYesYes
Rename and change the settingsYesYes
Invite and manage collaboratorsYesYes
Create or cancel the public linkYesYes
Duplicate, move, delete and restoreYes
Hand over ownershipYes

Opening a project as Viewer shows the editor in read only mode.

The role can come from a direct invitation or from the workspace the project is in. When a person has both, the stronger role wins.

Inviting collaborators

In the Collaborators tab of the project settings, use Invite collaborator, enter the email and pick the role.

  • The person needs a Tinypoly account.
  • The person inviting needs a verified email.
  • The invitation stays pending until the person answers, and can be cancelled in the meantime.

The invited person gets a notification and answers in Requests, on the projects page, with Accept or Decline. The person who invited is told about the answer. Once accepted, the project shows up in the Shared tab.

Each collaborator's role can be changed, or they can be removed, in the same tab.

Leaving a project

Anyone who is not the owner can leave a shared project with the Leave project item in the project menu. The project is not deleted, and coming back takes a new invitation.

Handing over ownership

The owner can give the project to someone else with the Transfer item, To a person tab. Only someone who is already a collaborator can receive it.

The transfer is a request: the person accepts or declines it in Requests. When they accept, they become the owner and the former owner stays in the project as Admin.

The same window, in the To a workspace tab, moves the project to a workspace.

The public link shows the project in a 3D viewer, to anyone and without an account. It is meant for showing the work without giving access to the editor.

  • Create public link creates the link. Creating it again keeps the same address.
  • Visitors see the last saved state of the project, so changes show up on their own.
  • Cancelling the link cuts access immediately.

Creating and cancelling is for Admin and Owner. The other roles can copy a link that already exists.

Community

Share to community takes you to the community with the project already chosen, to publish the result to the feed. Publishing requires at least the Editor role and a project with objects.
