Asset
An object, material or texture used in several places without copying.
An Asset is an object, material or texture from a project that can be used in other projects, or repeated in the same one, without copying. Whatever changes in the original changes everywhere it is used.
Create
An object or group becomes an asset from the context menu, with Make Asset. A group takes everything inside it, including materials and textures. Materials and textures can also become assets on their own, from the context menu of the resources list.
Stop Being an Asset, in the same menu, makes the asset show as unavailable where it was used.
Use
Add Asset lists the assets of your projects, of the ones shared with you and of your workspaces. Place the same asset as many times as you like, each with its own position, rotation and scale.
- Content: Cannot be edited in the project that uses the asset.
- Edit Asset: Opens the original for editing.
- Rasterize Object: Turns the asset into a regular copy that no longer follows the original.
Materials and textures that are assets are in the Assets folder of the resource picker.
Appearance
An asset has the same appearance section as the group. Each placement can have its own colors without changing the original.
Updates
Changes to the original show up when you open the project or come back to its tab.
Unavailable asset
The asset shows empty, with a warning in the hierarchy, when the original was deleted or stopped being an asset, when you have no access to the source project, or when it ended up inside itself.
