Workspaces
A workspace is a group of people who share projects: a studio, a team, a class. Every member reaches every project in the workspace, with the role they got when they joined, without being invited project by project.
Outside any group there is the Personal space, which holds the projects that are only yours and the ones shared directly with you.
Switching spaces
The selector lives in your account menu, at the bottom of the dashboard sidebar. It lists the Personal space and every workspace you belong to, with a mark on the one that is open. The projects page then shows the projects of the chosen workspace, from any member.
The choice is remembered in the browser. If you lose access to the open workspace, the dashboard goes back to the Personal space on its own.
Members and roles
The role in the workspace applies to every project in it:
| Action | Viewer | Editor | Admin | Owner |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| See the workspace, its members and projects | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Edit the workspace projects | Yes | Yes | Yes | |
| Create projects in the workspace and move your own into it | Yes | Yes | Yes | |
| Rename the workspace | Yes | Yes | ||
| Invite, change the role of and remove members | Yes | Yes | ||
| Make another member the owner | Yes | |||
| Delete the workspace | Yes |
Inside each project, the workspace owner counts as Admin. Deleting, duplicating and moving a project remains exclusive to the owner of that project, even inside the workspace. See the project roles in Sharing.
Managing
The Manage workspaces item, in the selector, opens the workspace management:
- Name: Editable by Admin and Owner.
- Members: The list of who takes part. Each member's menu lets you change the role, Remove member or, for the owner, Make owner. Whoever hands over ownership stays in the workspace as Admin.
- Invite: Invites by email, with the role already set.
The other members see the list without these actions.
Invitations
The invited person needs a Tinypoly account, and the person inviting needs a verified email. The person only joins after accepting the invitation, which arrives as a notification and waits in Requests, on the projects page. Meanwhile, the invitation shows as pending in the member list and can be cancelled.
Adding and removing projects
A project enters the workspace in two ways:
- Created inside it: With the workspace open, the new project button on the projects page creates the project there.
- Moved: The project owner uses Transfer, To a workspace tab, and picks the destination. The list shows the workspaces where they can create projects.
To take it out, the owner moves the project back to the Personal space.
Leaving and deleting
Any member can use Leave workspace. The owner can't leave: they first need to make another member the owner or delete the workspace.
Delete workspace removes the group, but never the projects. Each project goes back to the Personal space of its owner.
