Camera

A point of view saved in the project, with a real lens.

A Camera keeps a point of view: position, rotation, the point the view orbits around and the lens. It is created in Add Object, Camera, with the framing the perspective view shows at that moment.

In the viewport, the camera looks like a film camera with its field of view in front, and moves and rotates like any object.

Active camera

In the hierarchy, each camera has a button to look through it. With the camera active, the perspective view shows what it sees, and navigating the view moves the camera along. Every move can be undone.

Only one camera is active at a time. Turning off the active one brings the view back to where it was before.

Primary camera

With the Primary camera tag, the public link and community posts open from this camera, even when it is not active.

When rendering

With an active camera, the render uses its framing and keeps the view in place. Depth of field also comes from the active camera.

Depth of field

At the top of the inspector, a drawing of the lens shows the angle of view and the focus distance.

  • Focal length and Sensor width: Together they set the field of view. A short lens widens the angle; a long lens narrows it and brings things closer.
  • Focus distance: The distance of what stays sharp.
  • Depth of field: Blurs what is out of focus in the render.
  • F-stop: The lens aperture. Lower numbers blur more.
  • Aperture blades: The shape of blurred light spots. At 0, they are round.
