Gear

A toothed wheel with a hole, with an adjustable tooth count.

Gear

The Gear is a straight wheel with trapezoidal teeth and a central hole. Each tooth is built on the outline with four points, and the space between them stays at the radius of the body.

  • Body Radius: Radius of the wheel measured to the root of the teeth, not including them.
  • Tooth Height: How far each tooth sticks out of the body. The outer radius of the piece is the sum of the two.
  • Teeth: Number of teeth around it. It is the field that weighs the most on the polygon count, because each tooth costs four points on the outline.
  • Thickness: Thickness of the wheel on the Y axis.
  • Hole Radius: Radius of the central hole. It always stays smaller than the radius of the body.

Two gears mesh when they have the same tooth height and the distance between their centers is the sum of the two body radii.
